Arietta Cabernet Sauvignon “88 Keys” 2017
This special Arietta wine shows the great potential of Cabernet Sauvignon grown in one of Napa Valley’s coolest appellations, and in a warmer than normal vintage. We’ve been making wine from the same coveted block of Clone 337 Cabernet Sauvignon in Coombsville since 2007. The wine consistently showcases the many layers of the variety, from black licorice, cassis, and clafouti, to graphite and Breckland thyme. The California heat and sunshine in 2017 had the effect of turning up the volume on these distinguishing aromatic notes. We made a selection of the barrels that exhibited the greatest weight and intensity, blended them together, and then let them age for an additional ten months. After nearly thirty months in French Oak, the wine will be bottled without fining or filtration.
One hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2017 Arietta “88 Keys” is without a doubt the best expression that we can find of this unique vintage. While expansive and palate-penetrating, the wine shows a great deal of precision, with notes of blackberry, sage, and dried rose petals. There is a freshness and mouthwatering feel to the wine, even given the depth and richness that lies underneath. This is a serious offering that will certainly age in bottle for many years to come. And with less than 50 cases being bottled, there will not be much to go around.
